Built in 1635, Aizendo is the oldest surviving building in Taketa. The builders were a group of top-tier temple carpenters living in this castle town at that time. Its unique structure was designed with no interior posts.
Aizendo’s features create a simple harmonized beauty typically found Japanese architecture which takes full advantage of the texture of wood. The statue of Aizen Myoo, the god of matchmaking, is the principal image. Ancient and enduring, Aizendo watches over the people living in the area.
1635年建立の「愛染堂」は竹田で現存する最も古い建物。建立当時ここ竹田城下にいた、日本における当時の社寺建築最高峰の大工集団が築いたもので、内部に柱を用いない独特の設計が特徴です。
惹きつけられるのはその洗練された佇まい。木そのものの素材感が活かされた日本の木造建築ならではの、シンプルで調和のとれた美しさを感じます。本尊には「愛染明王」が安置され、現在では恋愛成就の御堂として城下町に住む人々を見守っています。
